Kathmandu Valley is the one of the oldest and unique city of Asia. Long ago Kathmandu valley was a huge Lake. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal was previously a huge lake. There’s a Mythological belief that Manjushree, a saint from China came to Kathmandu Valley. He cuts the hills of Chovar and drained all water outside valley. The reason behind Manjushree to come Kathmandu valley is to pay homage to Swoyambhunath.  Later settlement started, civilization grew inside the valley. The old inhabitants of Kathmandu valley are known as Newars/Newa.

Kathmandu Valley started to develop during Licchavi Era (400 to 750 CE). Later, Malla Kings (1201–1769) won over Licchavi Kings and took over Kathmandu valley. During Malla Era, Kathmandu valley developed even rapidly. Kathmandu Valley was not divided into three city from beginning. The old city of Kathmandu valley is  Bhaktapur/Bhadhgaun/Khwopa. One of the Malla Kings had three Sons. He formed two other city namely Patan/Lalitpur/Yela and Kathmandu/Kantipur/Yeen. This Era, witnessed further boost in enhancing the cultural heritage of Kathmandu by building pagodas, houses decorated with carved windows, exquisite open-air shrines and courtyards filled with brilliant sculptures. Malla Kings formed 54 Satellite City such as: Kirtipur, Thecho, Duwakot, Harisiddhi(Jala),etc to sustain  themselves. They perform their own Jatras, culture, etc.

Malla Kings formed 54 Satellite City such as: Kirtipur, Thecho, Duwakot, Harisiddhi(Jala), Thimi, etc to sustain  themselves. They perform their own Jatras, culture, etc.

Pagodas, houses decorated with carved windows, exquisite open-air shrines and courtyards filled with brilliant sculptures are found everywhere in core areas of Kathmandu Valley. Nowadays, people have forgotten the values of these courtyard, open-air shrines, sculpture and carved doors and windows. They are affected by Western Styles living. Till this date most of the open shrine, courtyard and carved windows are damaged, destroyed because of lack of knowledge, awareness and natural disasters.
